Tuan Haji Ab. Manan Bin Haji Yakub or better known as Pok Teh is a native of Kampung Sireh, Kota Bharu, Kelantan; an area that has been prominent in silver craftmanship since many generations ago. Pok Teh, who was born on the 10th of June 1944, was first exposed to the craft of silversmithing from as young as 7 years old. From boyhood Pok Teh often watched his father Haji Yakub Bin Mohamad, who was a talented silversmith, making silver craftworks for the British officers besides taking patronage from the palace and other local orders. From as early as the age of 14 in the year 1958, Pok Teh began seriously immersing himself in the craft of silversmithing with the encouragement and tutelage of his father. Pok Teh obtained his secondary and highest education at Sekolah Menengah Padang Garong, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Through his marriage to Limah Binti Che Abdullah, they were blessed with eight children. Armed with the awareness, interest and a fiery spirit that the traditional silver crafts need to be preserved, Pok Teh soldiered ahead in improving his skills and creations to raise the prestige of silver craftsmanship in the Malay community. After his father passed away in 1977, Pok Teh continued his father’s legacy in the art of silversmithing on a small personal scale.
